DESCRIPTION:Chestnut orchard planting and maintenance at Chestnut Meadows with the American Chestnut Foundation. \nThrough Stewardship Sundays\, community members of all ages come together to care for Wilton’s natural landscapes and strengthen their connection to the environment. Participants help maintain trails\, restore biodiversity\, and support the long-term health of our preserves. This welcoming\, hands-on program is open to everyone who wants to make a meaningful difference in our local environment. \nProgram Highlights\n• When: Sunday afternoons (1.5 hours per session)\n• Where: Wilton Land Trust Preserves\n• Who: Volunteers of all ages \nWhat You’ll Do\n• Restore: identify and remove invasive plants\n• Plant: transplant native trees\, shrubs\, and wildflowers\n• Maintain: ensure trails are clear\, safe\, and accessible to visitors \nWhat You’ll Gain\n• Environmental Impact: Help conserve and restore the land we love\n• Hands-on Experience: Practical ecological restoration and land care skills \nWhat to Bring\n• Clothing: Closed-toe shoes\, a brimmed hat\, long sleeves\, and pants\n• Essentials: Plenty of water\, snacks\, and sunscreen\n• Optional: Your own gloves or preferred hand tools (if desired) \nProvided by the Land Trust\n• Gear: All necessary gloves and hand tools\n• Materials: Native plant materials for restoration projects\n• Safety Supplies: First aid kit\, bug spray\, and poison ivy detox wipes \nImportant Notes\nThis program takes place outdoors in variable weather conditions\, with potential exposure to ticks and poison ivy. Volunteers are expected to dress appropriately for outdoor work\, follow all safety guidelines\, and be respectful of other participants\, staff\, and the environment.
